Other winter activities in Les Gets and the Portes du Soleil

View the spectacular Portes du Soleil from the air and get a real feel for the massive scale of the area. Just a few small steps are all that's needed to launch your paraglider into the air and then let the thermals lift you high above the mountain sides. There are several companies in Les Gets and Morzine who offer tandem flights suitable for all ages. Normally you get about twenty minutes in the air to enjoy the view before you touch down in the village. Paragliding tandem flights make a great gift if you have a family or group member celebrating a birthday whilst staying with us. Just ask us to book one for you.

This is an excellent way for non-skiers to experience winter conditions up in the mountains. Snowshoes are basically frames strapped onto sturdy walking boots to increase the surface area of each step. Many of the full day treks can be hard work and more physically demanding than skiing. But there are also beginners walks which reach altitudes without the high exertion ascents required by some of the full day treks. It is possible to hire raquettes (snowshoes) and ski poles from the local shops and hire a guide.

Dog Sledging

Husky dogs (domestic dog/wolf crosses) are bred to work but they are also wonderfully affectionate animals and are becoming very popular as pets. A team of these beautiful animals pulling a sled is an exciting experience to have, not for the speed as it is little more than walking pace but for the enjoyment of being with these dogs in their natural environment. This is another day out that can be shared with all the family as companies offer sessions for adults to learn to drive the dogs themselves and younger guests have the opportunity to sit in the sled and enjoy a ride.

Experience riding on a ‘Scooter des Neiges’ whizzing around on the snow and enjoying the mountain in a different way, great fun and a chance to give your legs a rest from skiing/boarding! You can normally ride on the snow mobiles in the evening after the pistes have closed. This is a great activity to do in pairs, whilst one person drives the other navigates, switching half way round the course. Avoriaz and Praz de Lys have some of the best courses with your guide taking you around obstacles and trees and over snow bumps.

For the youngsters (5-12 years) Les Gets' lets them learn to drive electric snowmobiles, specifically designed for their age group on a dedicated, enclosed circuit. Located at the Lac des Ecoles and Gentiane blue run below the Chavannes Express chair lift, the park is open 4 days a week (6 days a week during the French School holidays) from 10am to 5pm.
